Fall on the Front Range - Socially Distant Things to Do this October!

Updated: Oct 22, 2020

Fall is abundantly around us taking all forms. Falling leaves, long shadows, pumpkin spice lattes... Ghosts? Everywhere you turn, the season is calling you - and here are 7 great ways you can experience fall this month!

1) Art of Halloween - Virtual Costume Contest

Throughout October, Art of Home Team is running our first ever, all-out costume contest: Art of Halloween! The contest runs October 1st - 31st. Submit a photo or video of your best costume or Halloween decorations before November 1st for a chance to win a free 2-Night Vacation Getaway in the mountains! To enter, just post a picture of your costume/decorations to Facebook or Instagram, and tag @ArtOfHomeTeam and #ArtOfHomeHalloween. Categories for costumes and decorations are People, Pets, Pumpkins, and Places. May the best costume win!

2) Miller Farms Fall Festival

This year, Miller Farms is keeping their annual Fall Harvest Festival going, open 9am-6pm daily! Hop on their harvest hayride through 180 acres of farms, and pick your own pumpkins, fruits, and vegetables! Find your way through their corn maze, visit "Antique Alley", and have lunch in their picnic area. Wash stations are located throughout the area for all the hand-washing needs! Admission is all-inclusive, at $25 for adults, $15 for kids, and children 4 and under get in for free! Located near Longmont at 13912 CR 19, Platteville, CO 80651. Questions? Call them at (970)-785-6133 or email at info@millerfarms.net.

3) Oktoberfest from Home!

Though celebrated in September, and this year many the fests were put off, there are still PLENTY of yummy October releases to put you in the fall spirit! We are in the land of plenty when it comes to tasty beer, and here is a list of all the microbrew releases this fall! And if that's not enough to wet your whistle, there's still an Oktoberfest (called the Fall Back Fest) up in Estes Park on November 2nd!

4) Applefest at Ya Ya Farm and Orchard

Apples, apple cider donuts, apple pies... This place has it all. Pick some apples and enjoy some tasty BBQ, alongside bluegrass serenades from local band Stirrup Trouble. Ya Ya Farm and Orchard is hosting this socially-distanced Applefest this year on October 17th, 2020, 3:30pm-6pm at the farm! Located in Longmont at 6914 Ute Hwy, Longmont, CO 80503. If you'd like to visit the farm for apple-picking this season, the farm is open Tuesday, Wedsday, Friday: 9:00 – 4:00, Thursday: 10:00 – 6:00, and Saturday, Sunday: 9:00 – 3:00. Closed on Mondays. The quietest times for a visit are weekdays in the afternoon times. If you'd like to place an order in advance, they can get your order ready for pickup if you call them with 24 hours notice.

5) Pumpkin Spiced Latte and Chill

Break out that fall sweater and head down to Thump Coffee, Wash Perk, Cherry Bean, Allegro, Drip Denver, or Novo Coffee for the best pumpkin spice lattes and chai lattes around the city. Bring a blanket with you and a favorite book or podcast, and head to the park for some you-time! Need some socially-distanced social interactions? Meet a friend on the patio! The weather will be in the 80's until October 10th, then it drops into the 60's - a great excuse to get dressed up in your favorite fall threads!

6) Haunted House

Obvious favorite! But did you know that there are actually haunted houses open this fall? Socially distanced, y'all! Out There Colorado ranked their favorite haunted houses for 2020 here, including the very first DRIVE-IN haunted house, City of the Dead & Asylum in Henderson. Also on the list is our favorite, Anderson Farm's Terror in the Corn, a 25-acre corn maze haunted by literally your worst nightmares. Enter if you dare!

7) Date-Night In: Scary Movie and Fall-Themed Dinner

Surprise your date, your friends, your roommate, or family with a fall-themed night at home! Break out the horror flicks, goosebumps novels, or scary stories and cook a fall-themed meal. Here is a list of top fall recipes that we absolutely LOVE. We especially like the Thai Butternut Squash Curry and the Fall Harvest Honeycrisp Apple and Kale Salad. Don't know what to watch? Check out this list of best scary movies of all time. And if you're not super into the horror stuff, you may want to try our not-that-scary-but-still-a-little-scary scary movies list.

Happy October! Don't forget to post your costume to get entered to win your free
